Colorado Springs Career and Job Interview Coach
Hi, I’m Laura Benjamin, a Colorado Springs career coach and job interview coach with over 20 years of tested experience.
I help clients struggling with career and workplace issues, self-marketing skills, confidence and communication. I’m good at helping them figure out who they are and what they can do for others. I also help clients clarify what they want for the future – the kind of work, environment, organizational culture, etc.
I’ve worked on many sides of the career and employment table, including:
- As a Human Resources and Employee Benefits professional, I’ve been part of the screening, interview, hiring, new employee orientation and ‘on-boarding’ process
- As a frontline leader in an operations environment, I’ve interviewed and hired hundreds of hourly and salaried professionals
- I’ve been on Outplacement Teams contracted to help downsized employees following layoffs, reorganizations, acquistions and mergers
- I’ve presented numerous career and job search workshops for Workforce Centers, Recruiting and Human Resources professionals and networking groups
- Working for a Career Outplacement Company, I learned the good, the bad and the ugly of spending ‘big bucks’ with firms that promise inside contacts
Perhaps you (or someone you care about) faces one of the following challenges, changes, transitions or “opportunities”:
- You are anxious to “retire” but don’t plan to stop working; you’ll soon be free to do what you really WANT to do, but you’re not quite sure what that is or how to get started
- Your company has been acquired or plans to relocate; you know it’s only a matter of time before your position is eliminated or outsourced
- It’s time for a change. You fell into your present career and now realize life is passing you by, you’re bored and you want a new challenge
- You’re a recent grad who needs help kick-starting the job search process; someone to help you climb the learning curve quickly and effectively
- Perhaps you’re getting interviews but no offers and you’re wondering what’s up; you sense it’s probably time to get an objective opinion and help you address whatever’s getting in your way
- You have a friend or family member who is struggling and you’ve decided it’s time they have professional help – many people give the gift of my time and I do provide gift certificates
Here’s how I can help you or someone you care about…
- develop fresh ideas and creative marketing strategies
- identify and quantify your Master List of Accomplishments
- clarify personality style and preferred workplace culture
- analyze expressed or unconscious workplace expectations
- offer diplomatic yet “straight talk” feedback to overcome obstacles
- facilitate mock interviews so you can see and hear what’s working and what needs improvement
- provide encouragement, especially on the “dark days”
- serve as an “Accountability Partner” to help you stay on track
- make networking a comfortable process vs something to be feared
- build confidence and a greater sense of self-worth
- negotiate salary and benefits to maximum advantage
- develop an exit strategy so you don’t burn bridges
- identify personal positioning, distinctive and differentiating qualities to help you stand out from the ‘competition’
- enhance professional image including dress, speech and expression
How I work with clients…
Here are some questions you may wish to ask yourself before you call:
- What specifically do I want a coach to help me with? (Interview skills, identity, marketing, resume, confidence, etc.)
- How will I know if the coaching relationship is successful? What benchmarks or goals will I reach?
- Do I want a “Power Session” to give me a jump start, an Accountability Partner to keep me engaged or a series of coaching sessions to help me clarify who I am, what I want and how to market myself? OR do I just want it all?
- Is it worthwhile to speak with and “interview” a number of career coaches so I can compare? (I’d recommend doing a Google search or asking people you know who they might recommend)
- What investment am I willing and able to make? (Typically, career coaches charge about $150/hour. I prefer not to work on an hourly basis, but rather will tailor a “package” to meet the client’s needs)
Then, please call my office at 719-266-8088 to schedule a phone chat to discuss your present situation. We’ll talk about your goals and objectives and how I may be able to help you. We’ll see if we “click”. If we both feel like it’s a good fit, then we’ll discuss the specific services, where to meet, how often, etc.
I’m looking forward to speaking with you! Best regards,
Here’s what my clients say about our work together…
“You helped me more than in just a small way!!! I really appreciate and am extremely grateful for meeting you! I was in such a bad place when I met you and I always admired your strength, something that I was lacking. I’m sorry that I never conveyed that to you before. I can’t think you realize how much you really did help me!!! You have really found your niche! I’m so glad I found you! Man, YOU ROCK!” –Angie B.
“Laura, I truly appreciate your time and especially your insight. You’ve led me to see circumstances more clearly and you’ve helped me take back my rightful self-confidence. You have a gift for shining a light on the possibilities. I’m ready to step out of the shadows. I do have something unique to offer and I’m excited about positioning myself to invest my energy, experience and expertise in “the 5%” – the work that calls to me. If ever you have occasion to need a reference or wish to quote a comment on the effectiveness of your work, you have my permission and encouragement to do so.” –Confidential
“Things definitely turned around for Vince once you started working with him! He got that job and couldn’t be happier.” –Bill Viott, father of college grad
